Edinburgh Airport liquid rules

At Edinburgh Airport you can carry multiple liquid containers in your hand luggage, each up to 2 litres, and they can stay in your bag at security. Metal or double-walled containers must be empty, and aerosols are treated as a gas rather than a liquid.

Aerosols: check with your airline

Edinburgh Airport says pressurised containers such as aerosols are classed as a gas, and to check with your airline if in doubt. If you’re packing hairspray or spray deodorant, check with your airline before you fly.

The national safety limit for toiletry aerosols still applies: up to 0.5 litres per can and 2 litres in total per person, with the cap on. See deodorant on a plane for how this works.

Frozen food and liquids

Frozen liquids aren’t permitted in hand luggage at Edinburgh, and the airport includes frozen food in that. If something is frozen solid when you reach security, it won’t go through — pack it in your checked bag instead.

Medication

You can bring as much liquid medication as you need for your trip. Security may inspect it, so bring a prescription or doctor’s note.

This is airport security guidance, not medical advice.

Container size

Use the size printed on the container — not how much is left inside.

Not stated by Edinburgh

Edinburgh’s page doesn’t say whether laptops and large electronics can stay in your bag, whether you need a clear plastic bag, or whether your own containers need their size printed on them.
