London Gatwick Airport (LGW)
Gatwick liquid rules: what you can take through security
Gatwick allows liquids in containers of up to 2 litres each, as long as they’re not in a metal or double-walled container. Liquids and large electrical items can stay in your bag at security.
- Liquid container limit
- 2 litres per container
- Liquids at the scanner
- Stay in your bag
- Clear plastic bag
- Not stated on the airport’s page
- Laptops and large electronics
- Stay in your bag
The catch: metal and double-walled bottles
The bigger allowance has one important exception. A stainless-steel water bottle or an insulated flask has to be empty when you reach security — fill it airside. A full plastic bottle up to 2 litres is fine.
Baby milk, food and medicine
- Baby milk: Frozen milk isn’t allowed, but you can keep milk cool with gel packs or ice packs.
- Medicine: Medicines over the two-litre limit are allowed with a doctor’s note or prescription and may get extra screening.
- Solid food: Gatwick: cakes, fruit, vegetables, sandwiches and all solid foods allowed in hand luggage.
- Frozen food: Gatwick and Edinburgh also say frozen foodstuffs aren’t permitted.
Razors at Gatwick
Gatwick is stricter than the GOV.UK list on blades. Gatwick says only razors with the blade set into a plastic moulding are allowed in hand luggage. GOV.UK doesn’t list loose blades, so check with your departure airport. Pack a safety razor or loose blades in your checked bag. See razors in hand luggage.

Not stated by Gatwick
Gatwick’s security page doesn’t say whether liquids need a clear plastic bag or whether your own containers must have their capacity printed on them. Some 100ml airports, such as Manchester, do require printed capacity — so if your return flight leaves from one of those, decant into marked travel bottles on Amazon UK (opens in a new tab) (paid link).
