London Luton Airport (LTN)
Luton Airport liquid rules
At London Luton, liquids must be in containers under 100ml (or 100g) each. Keep them in your bag — Luton says a plastic bag is no longer required — and large electronics can stay in your bag too.
- Liquid container limit
- 100ml per container
- Liquids at the scanner
- Stay in your bag
- Clear plastic bag
- No clear bag needed
- Laptops and large electronics
- Stay in your bag
Prescribed vs over-the-counter medicine
Luton draws a line that other airport pages don’t spell out. Prescribed liquid medicines need proof such as a prescription. Non-prescribed or over-the-counter liquid medicine is treated as a normal liquid. In practice, a large bottle of cough syrup you bought at a chemist is treated like shampoo: it has to be 100ml or less, or go in the hold.
This is security guidance, not medical advice. If you rely on a liquid medicine, carry your prescription.
Breast milk and baby food
Frozen breast milk isn’t accepted because frozen liquids can’t be screened. Liquid breast milk is covered by the GOV.UK exemption, which allows containers up to 2 litres.

What “100ml or 100g” covers
Luton gives the limit by weight as well as volume, which helps with pastes and gels sold by weight — such as toothpaste and hair gel. If the tube says more than 100g, it’s over the limit, even if it’s half used.
Not stated by Luton
Luton’s pages don’t say whether metal drinks bottles must be empty or whether your own containers need their size printed on them. Using marked travel bottles on Amazon UK (opens in a new tab) (paid link) avoids any argument.
