London Stansted Airport (STN)
Stansted Airport liquid rules
Stansted allows liquids in containers of 100ml or less. Thanks to the new scanners, you can leave liquids and electronics in your bag. If you’ve decanted anything into your own bottles, they need their capacity printed on them.
- Liquid container limit
- 100ml per container
- Liquids at the scanner
- Stay in your bag
- Clear plastic bag
- Not stated on the airport’s page
- Laptops and large electronics
- Stay in your bag
Faster through security, same 100ml limit
The new scanners change how you’re screened, not what you can carry. You no longer unpack your liquids or laptop, but each container still has to be 100ml or smaller. Anything bigger belongs in checked baggage.
Small cabin bag, small bottles
If you’re only taking a free under-seat bag — for example Ryanair’s or Wizz Air’s — space and the 100ml limit both push you towards travel-size toiletries. Buy travel bottles with the size printed on on Amazon UK (opens in a new tab) (paid link), or check your own containers are marked.
Exemptions
London Stansted Airport says the normal exemptions apply. Under GOV.UK rules those are:
- Essential medicines — containers up to 2 litres
- Food for special dietary requirements — containers up to 2 litres
- Baby food or baby milk — containers up to 2 litres
- Liquids bought at the airport or on the plane, sealed in a security bag with the receipt sealed inside and visible
Liquid medicine in a container over 100ml needs proof it is prescribed to you, such as a letter from your doctor or a copy of your prescription.

Not stated by Stansted
Stansted’s page doesn’t say whether you need a clear plastic bag or whether metal drinks bottles must be empty. Follow the instructions at your security lane on the day.
