Sports equipment

Flying with skis or a snowboard

Skis and snowboards travel in the hold and need adding to your booking. Most airlines we cover set a weight limit — Ryanair 20 kg, easyJet 20 kg, Jet2.com 22 kg and Wizz Air 32 kg. British Airways instead counts them as part of your checked allowance, with a maximum size of 190 × 75 × 65 cm.

Boots, helmets and the rest of the kit

Skis and boots, and snowboards, are in easyJet’s small (20kg max) category. That’s useful if you want everything in one bag — but on easyJet sports equipment weight can’t be combined (“pooled”) with your hold luggage allowance. Other airlines don’t say on the pages we checked whether boots can share the ski bag, so ask before you pack them together.

Long skis and BA’s size limit

Skis or snowboards can be up to 190 × 75 × 65 cm. Measure the bag, not just the skis — a padded ski bag on Amazon UK (opens in a new tab) (paid link) adds length. BA advises telling them in advance for oversize sports items.
